Mâconnais 2018

Made from over forty parcels, all vinified separately, from 15-30 year old vines. Balanced and fresh, with such focus and texture on the palate. This is simply delicious, from one of the best producers out there.

From a 2.7 hectare walled vineyard that borders the Château and old winery, the old vines of more than 50 years old create a wine that, for us, is unrivalled in the Mâconnais. This is Grand cru in complexity, texture, explosiveness. At this price, a must buy.

The vines here were planted in 1927, and they give a benchmark Pouilly-Fuissé. There are notes of pineapple and melon, with such texture and a fine thread of acidity throughout. Simply delicious.

Not the best known village here, this is textured, expressive, and intense. Just such a joyful Chardonnay, and such a bargain.

From a north facing in Vergisson, this is very Côte de Beaune - you can see the line from Meursault to this wine. There’s such drive and purity, yet with a beautiful nutty, mineral finish. It’s so long - this is one to stock up on, brilliant.

Richness and roundness on the attack, but then a line of acidity comes through, balancing the wine perfectly on the long finish. This shows how good a winemaker Caroline is: the perfect balance of richness and finesse.

2014 was the first vintage of this charming, silky wine. There’s lovely acidity, with texture and salinity. Finessed, and impressively long.

A two hectare plot, with one hectare of old vines, planted in 1965. Ripe and intense, with apricot and also a touch of rose petal. A south facing site, it’s early to be picked, but is well managed, and has incredible depth without being overblown.

Dominique bought the estate for this 2.5ha clos, planted in 1980 but with a history dating back centuries. This is so mealy, with apples and limes and salinity and length. This makes your lips tingle on the finish: incredible, true Chardonnay.

From 12 different parcels, with the youngest 40 years old, and a lot at 80 years old, Caroline is very careful of the date of harvest here. This is floral and delicate, with such energy and complexity. Amazing in 2018.

Now aged in large oak foudres for better balance, this has such amazing focus yet with the richness and intensity we’d expect from the plot. Clean and driven on the finish.

From a plot called Le Monsard, there are only 5,000 bottles produced from 0.75ha. The terroir here is more like Pouilly-Fuissé, and the wine is delicate and floral, with tons of elegance on the finish.
