Portuguese Wine

With its strong historical links, including the world’s oldest treaty dating back to 1373, it comes as little surprise that Britain has played a key role in the development of Portugal’s wine. This is most obvious with Port and Madeira, fortified wines that fuelled the British Empire. But in the 21st century Portugal’s red wines from regions like the Douro are proving ever better purchases, whilst Alvarinho from the north of the country will suit anyone searching for characterful dry whites.
