The 2015 Quinta da Leda is a gorgeous red from Portugal’s Douro valley: a lesson in balance. The nose is elegant and perfumed, with notes of violets and fresh dark fruit, alongside hints of tapenade and rosemary. The palate has amazing volume, with silky tannins and dancing acidity. Such a baby, this will be so seductive in a few years time.
The 2015 Quinta da Leda is a blend of 50% Touriga Franca, 20% Touriga Nacional and 15% each of Tinto Cão and Tinta Roriz, aged for 18 months in an equal mixture of new and used French oak. It comes in at 13.5% alcohol. Like so many wines in this vintage, this has bold flavors, freshness and a long finish. The structure is beautiful. It is remarkably elegant overall, but don't forget that power on the finish. This is stunning at times, although unevolved. It looks like a gorgeous Leda, a fine food wine and something that can develop as well. It may not have the "hit you over the head" muscle of the 2009, but it has more finesse. Let's be just a little cautious and let it prove its case in the cellar.
