2017 Huilkrans Chenin Blanc, Chris Alheit, Skurfberg

2017 Huilkrans Chenin Blanc, Chris Alheit, Skurfberg

1,880 bottles produced. It's the first time they've bottled a standalone wine from Oudam farm, though they've worked with the Visser family here since 2011. Its name comes from the name of a cliff on the farm that weeps when it rains - which has adopted a second meaning since the death of the Visser's son, and heir to the farm, Kallie, last year. It's a special place, that’s isolated in the mountains with old vines and low rainfall. It used to go into Cartology, but cChris picked out his favourite 7 barrels to bottle it as this wine. There's an essence of citrus oil on the nose, but there’s also a hay character here. Lovely energy and such amazing purity. Saline and long, but it’s the purity and precision here that makes it just that spectacular. He thinks it’s one of the best wines he’s ever bottled. Strictly limited to 6 bottles per customer.
