2010 Pintia, Vega-Sicilia, Toro

“The 2010 Pintia had already been bottled when I tasted it, although not released. The bouquet is very Bordeaux-like with black rather than red fruit, fine minerality and touches of graphite and cedar. The palate is medium-bodied with plump, rounded tannins, a firm structure and great precision on the finish. This is what you might call a “classic” Pintia that already demonstrates great breeding and sophistication toward the finish.”

Vega-Sicilia

Vega Sicilia is to Spain what the First Growths are to France. Its story is well known - a Spanish winemaker trained in Bordeaux and returned to his homeland with a few vines to blend with the local Tempranillo. The flagship wine, Unico, marks the first time Bordeaux varieties were used in Ribera del Duero. They also produce a second wine, Valbuena 5°, so-called because it’s kept in the cellar for 5 years before release, and stablemates Pintia and Alion.
