1996 Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill, Pol Roger
Pale gold in the glass, aromas reveal a fine complexity, offering notes of ripe apples, freshly-baked brioche, vanilla and cream. The palate shows fine intensity and poise with a luxuriant mousse. The acidity, though racy and mouthwatering, is perfectly ripe, a characteristic of many of the great '96s. This is very harmonious indeed and linear in style, showing terrific persistence – we believe it will prove far superior to the 1995. It will need at least 5 years to reach maturity although possesses the capacity to age significantly beyond.
