Didier Dagueneau had always been interested in making sweet wine and in 2002, he teamed up with his friend, Guy Pautrat, and purchased a few hectares of Petit Manseng in a vineyard shaped like a natural amphitheatre in Jurançon. Dagueneau’s approach, as for his Sauvignons, was to produce wines that brought out the natural minerality of the soil and which, above all, displayed balance, harmony and longevity. This 2007 is thick, exotic and liqueur-like with orange peel, honeysuckle and pineapple notes. The palate is lusciously redolent in flavours of tangerine and Grand Marnier where the strong sweetness is supported by a solid streak of acidity that brings a lovely bright freshness to the wine. The finish is spicy, long and deliciously complex.
