2018 Muscadet de Sèvre et Maine sur lie, Grand Mouton, Louis Métaireau

This is Muscadet. There’s pear, melon and a touch of oyster shell along with a complex lees character. So much texture and flavour: this will age very nicely.

2018 Muscadet de Sèvre et Maine sur lie, Grand Mouton, Louis Métaireau
Louis Metaireau

The name of this domaine has disappointingly little to do with sheep: rather, Mouton comes from the French word for a small hill, Motte. Sèvre et Maine is probably Muscadet’s most famous area, and Marie-Luce Métaireau and Jean-François Guilbaud have, since 1988, crafted one of the very best examples. This is their flagship wine, and comes from vines that date back to 1937, giving serious density and concentration.
