2017 Hermitage Le Gréal, Marc Sorrel

Out of barrel, the 2017 Gréal from Sorrel is a blockbuster, with notes of ink and dark cherry, and such intensity, concentration and depth that it keeps drawing you ever closer into the glass. This is enormous, yet with such a weightless power that it fills the mouth without effort. A truly great wine, and one that will be spoken about and sought after for decades to come, it’s no surprise Marc considers this his greatest wine ever.

2017 Hermitage Le Gréal, Marc Sorrel
Domaine Marc Sorrel

Marc Sorrel makes excellent wines on the legendary hill of Hermitage, from superbly situated parcels of old vines. A dedicated grower, he’s most often found tending to the vines, with little interest promoting his handiwork. His holdings are small (just 2.55 hectares) and production of two whites and two reds is low. However, his dedication in the vineyard and traditional methods in the winery lead to wines which are impressive year on year, displaying ever greater complexity as they age.
