The non-productivity of Grenache in 2013, making up only 50% of the final blend rather than the usual 65%, means that Vincent Avril’s loyalty to all permitted varieties once again paid dividends, as increased levels of Mourvèdre gives the wine a delightful spicy, black fruit character with some tapenade notes. Whilst a more elegant incarnation than recent years, an ABV of 14.8% shows that this is definitely not a fragile, bodiless wine. With a dedication to quality that accepted the loss of 50,000 bottles in 2013, Vincent’s latest offering will offer enjoyment for years and years to come.
