Clos des Papes is assembled two months prior to bottling. Vincent Avril has traditionally fermented more than one variety in the same vat, dependant on ripeness and harvest date, and to aid complexity as well as to respect tradition. While differences were inevitable between samples, a considerable depth of luxurious fruit was evident, allied to superb intensity and an inspired structure comprising luscious tannins and vibrant acidity. Powerful and balanced, these traits come to the fore in what is certain to be seen as one of the great wines of the vintage, indeed of the region.
