2014 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos, Jean-Paul Droin

Such is the power of this wine, the 50% oak is barely detectable. Piercing fruit, zest, and flinty minerality, what more could you want from Grand Cru Chablis? This wine dances around the mouth for minutes after each sip. Incredible wine; incredible producer; incredible vintage.

2014 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos, Jean-Paul Droin
Domaine Jean-Paul & Benoît Droin

Present in Chablis since at least 1620, nobody understands Chablis better than the Droin family. Jean-Paul (J.P.) first put the estate on the map, and it’s now Benoît in charge. He’s the fourteenth generation at the helm, since 1999. That was the same year the Droins built a state-of-the-art winery, in the shadow of the Grands Crus. Benoît has increased quality considerably. He uses less new oak, making Chablis that’s crisp, precise, and that shows differences between each vineyard clearly.
