An assemblage of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot. Jean-RenéMatignon commented that he declassified some parcels of Merlot infavour of the higher performing Cabernet. He felt that certain Merlotlacked concentration as a consequence of yield. The average across thevineyards of Pibran comes in at a slightly lower than normal level of 42hectolitres per hectare all the same. Harvest was late with the Cabernetbrought in towards mid-October.The aromas here are unashamedly Cabernet, sweet, ripe blackcurrants tothe fore. The palate shows a lovely ripeness too, with a deep core ofsolid fruit and mineral, slightly grainy tannins. Harmonious and quiteforward in style, there is a mouthfilling touch of concentration here anda pleasing, lingering finish.
