An assemblage of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot. Jean-RenéMatignon commented that he declassified some parcels of Merlot in favour of the higher performing Cabernet. He felt that certain Merlot lacked concentration as a consequence of yield. The average across the vineyards of Pibran comes in at a slightly lower than normal level of 42 hectolitres per hectare all the same. Harvest was late with the Cabernet brought in towards mid-October. The aromas here are unashamedly Cabernet, sweet, ripe blackcurrants to the fore. The palate shows a lovely ripeness too, with a deep core of solid fruit and mineral, slightly grainy tannins. Harmonious and quite forward in style, there is a mouthfilling touch of concentration here and a pleasing, lingering finish.
