2004 Château Le Tertre Rôteboeuf, Grand Cru St-Emilion

2004 Château Le Tertre Rôteboeuf, Grand Cru St-Emilion

Francois Mijtaville's extraordinary property perhaps does not garner as much respect as it should based on the quality of a great many vintages. The 2004 passed by almost unnoticed by the masses and a recent purchase has given us the chance to revisit a wine that did not feature in our extensive en primeur offer of that year. With an average annual production of just 2000 cases, Tertre-Roteboeuf is readily snapped up by collectors on release. However, many chase the vintages when the point scores are high and fail to see the merit in the more restrained vintages.Deep in the glass, with aromas of cherry, dark chocolate and liquorice. The palate is rich and lush, with savoury mocha characters overlaid with morello cherry and wild strawberry. The structure is firm, with ripe, fine tannins and a touch of savoury minerality.
