Domaine Michel Gros
Pierre Gros took the reins of the family winery, Domaine Michel Gros, in 2019. The domaine’s reputation for making good value, traditionally-styled Burgundy with fine structure and the potential for ageing is well-established, and Pierre’s father Michel is a tough act to follow; twice nominated IWC Red Winemaker of the year and head of the domaine since 1975. Pierre is in no rush to change the domaine’s characterful style, continuing to employ a long élévage and use plenty of new oak. He is, however, implementing changes in the vineyard by moving towards organic farming methods. The domaine’s prized possession is their monopole Clos des Réas, a single vineyard that produces a premier cru wine of supreme elegance that has been in the Gros family since 1860. They also have a grand cru parcel in Clos de Vougeot and some substantial vineyard sites in the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits.
