2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Brulées, Domaine Michel Gros

Fragrant and aromatic with hints of violet coming through, Michel mentioned that there is very little soil at this plot possibly due to fires that once burnt there (hence the name, I suppose). A tightly wound ball of concentration with chalky tannins and plenty of energy, this will need plenty of time to reveal all.

2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Brulées, Domaine Michel Gros
Domaine Michel Gros

Best known for his monopole Clos des Réas, a vineyard that produces a wine of supreme elegance, this remarkable plot has been in the family since 1860. Michel Gros has been at the head of the family domaine that now bears his name since 1975. A rather more recent addition was his tiny parcel of Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot, bought by Michel’s father for his son’s twelfth birthday, although he’s adamant he would have preferred a bike!
