2012 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Brulées, Domaine Michel Gros

The vineyard is in a small dip in the land, which acts as a sun trap and explains the origin of the name. With a little warm spice on the nose, the fruit has real concentration and combined with the silky tannins lead to a long finish. This gives the impression of a wine in waiting, furled up and ready to burst open.

2012 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Brulées, Domaine Michel Gros
Domaine Michel Gros

Best known for his monopole Clos des Réas, a vineyard that produces a wine of supreme elegance, this remarkable plot has been in the family since 1860. Michel Gros has been at the head of the family domaine that now bears his name since 1975. A rather more recent addition was his tiny parcel of Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot, bought by Michel’s father for his son’s twelfth birthday, although he’s adamant he would have preferred a bike!
