Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard
Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard is one of Burgundy’s most charming, family-run domaines. Their wines are always a smart buy, made with the utmost finesse and they have established themselves as one of the defining estates of Chassagne-Montrachet. The domaine was born in 1985 through the marriage of Laurence Gagnard, heiress to the historic Gagnard-Delegrange estate, and Richard Fontaine, who incorporated his own share of his family’s vineyards. They supplemented their inherited land with a series of shrewd purchases through the 80s and 90s, growing the estate to 12 hectares of prime vineyard sites through Chassagne-Montrachet, Pommard and Volnay. Their daughter Céline Fontaine and her husband, Fred Robert (ex-Armand Rousseau), run the estate with them, with Céline heading the team. She is fortunate to work with some top vineyard sites, including three grand cru vineyards and twelve different premiers crus, including enviable parcels of Les Caillerets and La Romanée.
