Storm Wines New Releases

Slightly savoury nose of miso, acacia and grapefruit pith. There is focus and energy here but also a beautiful savoury texture. Some bitter lemon notes, grapefruit pith, with hint of tropical but there is real substance here – restrained and classic yet totally delicious.

From a high elevation plot planted in 2009 there is a little savoury complexity on the nose with a hint of apricot, brown butter, acacia and honeysuckle, with a subtle hint of flint and oak. Bright and zesty with notes of white grapefruit, this is quite pithy and chalky in style. A wine of excellent focus with drive and purity on the finish.

From a vineyard planted in 2008 this is beautifully expressive with high toned aromatics of cherry blossom and dried rose. There is a more mineral and stony feel to the wine with notes of ripe summer berries, rosehip, and even hints of rhubarb. Bright and assertive with a sinewy twist of tannin and tension – it is a vibrant and well framed Pinot that is immediately pleasing but will benefit from further time in bottle.

From a site lower down the valley on clay-shale soils there is a beautiful nose of pepper, dried herbs and fresh cherry. The palate feels round and silky with seamless, fleshy cherry fruit flavours and accents of fresh earth and savoury spice. The wine is fully destemmed and around 25% new barrels was used for ageing.

The highest elevant of the Storm sites, this vineyard was planted in 2009 on clay-shale soils with an east facing exposition. It is a wine that is always a little more brooding in style with a sense of elegant restraint. There are notes of wild herbs, savoury spice and dark cherry fruit with finely etched, compact tannin. It is the most backwards of the wines today but will surely age beautifully.
