Iconic wines in the month to come

The 2023 Vin de Constance is a wine of total class and expert balance. Push and pull tension on the palate with an expressive nose of rose, mandarin peel and Turkish Delight. There is clearly impressive concentration that expands across the palate with flavours of lychee, white peach, a little ginger spice and acacia. A bright line of freshness articulates the layers of complexity with notes of dried apricot and honeysoaked melon. Huge ageing potential and an impressive effort this vintage.

A dense and rather powerful style of Opus this year, it is brimming with a core of blackcurrant, violets, liquorice and juniper. While there is power, there is also total class there. The tannins are fine, firm and compact with a gravelly and mineral undertone. A wine that will most definitely reward patience.

There is a generosity to this years Overture, offering notes of red cherry, blueberry and damson. Exotic spice dances over the fruit with a dusting of coca and star anise. There is freshness and vibrancy while not lacking any substance. Silky and supple tannins and long fruit focused and defined finish.

A slightly flinty nose with notes of white flowers, sea spray, and orange rind. There is a mouth-watering tension here that builds and builds. White grapefruit, acacia, and white peach fill out through the palate with a beautifully fresh finish.

Always a favourite from the Penfolds range, the St Henri Shiraz is fabulous. Beautifully expressive with waves of violets, tapenade, incense and cocoa this only grows with air and with time. There is a real sense of balance and harmony, and with ageing this will come together very well.
