A beautiful expression of Tannat, with rich, concentrated black fruit and a firm structure. The tannins are bold but balanced by fresh acidity and masses of complex flavours of vanilla, coffee, chocolate and fig.

This is an impressive malbec from Belasco de Boquedano. On the nose notes of violets, pure berry fruit, and a hint of crushed herbs. There’s lovely freshness on the palate, here, with a lick of oak spice, and silky, enveloping tannins. Beautifully balanced, and absolutely delicious.

The son of renowned winemaker Jorge Riccitelli, Matías has created a stunning, modern classic from 80-year-old ungrafted vines in Vistalba, Perdriel, and La Consulta. The 2022 vintage showcases the incredible gravitas and seamless depth typical of these centenarian plants, balanced by the winemaker's trademark freshness and precision. Deeply concentrated, it opens with a quintessentially fragrant bouquet of wild blackberries, black cherries, liquorice, and perfumed violet. The palate is full-bodied and beautifully structured, wrapping rich, dark cocoa and hazelnut-chocolate notes in superfine, silky tannins that flow into a remarkably long, polished finish.

This comes from Assyrtiko vines with an average age of 180 years old, and is an impossibly delicious white from Matthew Argyros. Notes of sea spray, fennel and candied lemon on the nose, while the palate is so textured, and so saline. Incredibly long and focussed, this is a real delight. Not to be missed.

The 2008 Don Melchor is a blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc that is aged for 15 months in French oak. Crisp, precise and attractive aromas of cassis, black cherry and dark plum are supported by rich mocha and toasty oak. There are fine, grippy tannins enswathed in juicy blackberry fruit, accompanied by a subtle hint of iodine and black olive, leading to a freshly spiced finish. This is a lovely, focused wine of great weight and depth that will be drinking well into 2020 and beyond.

The 2019 Seña is a vibrant, ripe, yet incredibly refined red from this iconic estate. A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Malbec, 15% Carmenère, and 4% Petit Verdot, it shows refinement of tannins, poise, and a long and stony finish. There’s tons of energy here, and a slightly smoky finish. This is quintessentially Chilean, but with real poise.

A truly beautiful Malbec made from vines that are over 100 years old. The elevation of their vineyard gives incredible almost-minty, floral freshness to the wine, alongside dense blackberry, damson and blueberry fruit. There is subtle spiciness from a year in French oak and a wilder savoury, herbal character too.

Known locally as Rizling Rýnsky, this Riesling displays beautiful lime and citrus aromas with a steely quality that is evident on the nose and palate. There is an attractive waxy texture and ginger spice note on the palate that gives a breadth and additional concentration, with a brisk acidity that balances the wine elegantly.

The Petite Arvine is intense and savoury. There’s peaches here, and plenty of savoury spice, with notes of fresh ginger and a long and textured finish. Very saline on the finish: makes you reach for another glass.

A brilliant contemporary Malbec from the pioneering and thoughtful Altos Las Hormigas. The winery was established in 1995 by two Italians, and in 2012 they worked with Pedro Parra to identify top sites for Malbec in the Mendoza area, and eschewed new oak for larger, older casks and concrete tanks for maturation. This, from the Terroir series, is focused on expressing the purity and elegance of a single site in Luján de Cuyo, the traditional place for Mendoza wine production. They harvest by hand, and use gravity to process the grapes into small concrete tanks where they are fermented with wild yeasts, and then spend 18 months before resting in bottle for six further months. It's a single parcel Malbec and has grippy, rounded tannins, minty, limestone freshness and layers of bramble fruit and crunchy red cherry.

Very primary at the moment on the nose, with dark fruits, violet notes, and a sprinkling of well-integrated sweet fruit. In the mouth the power builds, but the thread of freshness ensures a weightless quality. With excellent acidity, fine-grained tannins, and intensity of flavour, the 2013 Caro has all the characteristics required for a long life ahead.

Les Hauts de Pierre is the pinnacle of Blaise’s production. It comes from a single parcel of old vine Chasselas, and is powerful, textured, and intense, almost reminiscent of top Burgundy. This 2019 is a little closed, but with texture and purity on the palate, it points to a long life ahead. The salinity and leesy complexity on the palate lasts an age, with notes of citrus and more savoury elements unfurling over time: this is a remarkable Swiss white.

One of the most celebrated and complex whites from South America. Pithy, mineral and incredibly intense. Elegant and flinty with a long finish.

Catena and the Rothschilds continue to show what can be achieved in Mendoza. The 2015 Caro is superb: blackberries and plums, with notes of fresh herbs and smoke. It’s beautifully balanced, with ripe tannins and a freshness that gives a touch of salinity. Already impressive, and there’s clearly a long life ahead of this.

Quite a powerful style of Assyrtiko, this shows a wonderfully pure mineral structure underpinned with a wave of vervy acidity. Very detailed texture with white grapefruit, white flowers and some hints of stone fruits come through on the palate. So pure and refreshing this has a clean saline lift on the finish.

The Petit Clos is the second wine of Clos Apalta, but undergoes the same precise winemaking as the Grand Vin, with a little less new oak, making it a more approachable but no-less-delicious example from Chile's Colchagua valley. 40% Cabernet gives this excellent structure, with a silky texture and impressive depth of flavour. It's a wine that far outperforms its price point.

This is one of the best Malbecs we’ve come across, and the 2012 delivers in spades. Now at 6 and a half years old, it’s absolutely delicious, with notes of prune and ripe plum, a hint of spice, and fine acidity on the finish. At this price, it’s simply remarkable.

The classically styled 2008 is the epitome of Musar’s traditional and elegant personality. Gorgeous red and black fruits with a juicy core thanks to optimum ripeness, with coffee and tobacco notes and a delicious, delicately intertwined structure.

The top Chilean wine for Domaines de Baron Rothschild, made from 70 year old vines. Full of bright, rich new world fruit character but with the structure and savoury hints of Bordeaux.

On the nose notes of dark cherry and blackcurrant, while the palate has spice and silky tannins, and a finely judged thread of acidity. This is a beautifully restrained Cabernet Sauvignon, from a talented team.

This, from the impressive 2016 vintage, is gorgeous. It is a blend of Furmint and Hárslevelű , the two greatest grape varieties of Tokaji. There’s tropical fruit, apricots, honeysuckle, and so much spice. And the sweetness is wonderfully balanced with bright acidity, and a minerality that comes from the volcanic soils of the Tokaji region.

The 2009 Musar is a blend of approximately one third each of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, and Carignan. A spicy, complex nose with wild berries and dark chocolate leads onto a palate with lovely weight and texture. The finish is long and perfumed, with a hint of smokiness. Musar release their wines when they consider them ready, and this is undoubtedly delicious. But you needn’t be in a rush: this will certainly last well.

The second wine of renowned Clos Apalta, with pure, ripe berry fruit character, hints of sweet spice and long, complex flavours of violets, pepper, chocolate and damson.

Caro is the Argentina project for the Rothschilds of Chateau Lafite, along with the pioneering Catena family. This vintage is rich and ripe, with cassic, plum, as well as developing black truffle and black pepper. It retains some chalky freshness which cuts through the natural richness of the vintage.

The 2017 Caro is a really impressive, structured wine. Dark and intense, with lots of grippy tannins and a very fine finish, this will be brilliant in a few years. The best yet?

The Silex Blanc demonstrates Ben’s desire to produce a wine that is different to the typical English style. In 2022 the blend comprises Pinot Noir (50%), Pinot Blanc (40%) and Chardonnay (10%), varieties that were previously considered difficult to grow and ripen in the UK’s climate. But modern approaches and knowledge have shown that excellent, high-quality wines can be made and Silex has attracted a reputation for being one of these. The grapes were gently whole bunch pressed, with only the finest portion of juice used, resulting in a very refined fruit expression. The juice was then fermented in old oak barrels sourced from a winemaker friend of Ben in Burgundy, going through full malolactic fermentation to lend softness. It was then matured for 9 months, a third each in amphorae, stainless steel and 3 year old oak. This is a brilliant English dry white with beautiful elegance, balance and complexity. Bright and vibrant on the nose with apricot, lemon peel and honeysuckle notes. The palate has a racy, slightly tropical and stone fruit core, with excellent acidity and texture. Burgundian character with plenty of English charm.

The 200 year old vines sourced from Episkopi can take a lot of the credit for the structure and level of concentration and breadth that this wine has. Lees ageing of 2 years also gives an added layer of weight and complexity to this wine. White peach and fresh apricots are supported with a saline and linear core as well as citrus and lemon pith. A classy wine that will no doubt age well beyond what is expected of it.

A trailblazing cuvee from Catena that focuses on the execptional terroir here. There's limestone soils and 1500m of elevation, leaving the wine with beautiful freshness and mineral tones. There are tons of aromatics, with vibrant red berry fruit and some floral blue fruits. There's chalkiness to the tannins and complex, dried herb notes. One of the most exciting wines coming out of Argentina.

Les Murets comes from the commune of Villette. It’s a delicate, elegant expression of Chasselas: the perfect introduction to the grape. From sandy, chalky soils, it’s a mineral, floral wine, ideal with lighter dishes. Notes of rose petal and watermelon, and a lovely savoury lift on the finish. Very good value.

Classified First Growth, Disznóko is one of the greatest single vineyards of Tokaj-Hegyalja. Under the leadership of AXA Millésimes since 1992 (owner of legendary estates such as Château Pichon Longueville, Château Suduiraut and Quinta do Noval), Disznóko combines state of the art technology with age-old local tradition. Their exclusive Kapi is a super premium 6 Puttonyos produced in very limited quantities from a tiny parcel of vines and only in exceptional vintages.

This is a sublime sweet wine that has a wonderfully complex bouquet of acacia honey, citrus peel, raisins, quince and dried apricots. On the palate, sweet Seville marmalade provides a rich and intense core supported by exotic spice, fig, clove and a hint of marzipan. Sweet, rich with a crisp, zesty acidity and a clean yet sumptuous texture. Liquid gold.

Large white stones in a small plot of the Adrianna vineyard gives this Cuvée its name. An almost herbal note on the nose, driven by richness but with real lift and elegance. The palate is ripe and lush: concentration was given in 2012 by tiny yields, whilst a long growing season has locked in flawless acidity. With time in the bottle this could be mind-blowing.

We are delighted to have discovered a new wine project that was established only a few years ago in 2020. The grapes are sourced from a high altitude, single vineyard plot on the foothills of Mountain Za, on the island of Naxos, Greece. Exclusively old vines of more than 150 years old, these low yielding, ungrafted bush vines are planted on spectacular rocky and clay terraces.A burst of lemon verbena, white peach and grapefruit combined with ginger and flinty notes are supported by herbal notes on the finish. The crisp acidity balances perfectly with the wine’s salty and tangy profile. The 150 year old vine fruit going into this wine gives concentration and energy that is so rare and so enjoyable to be able to taste.

Made largely from Cabernet Sauvignon with some Cinsault and Syrah, ripeness is a hallmark of Musar. Sinewy yet mellow. A striking wine of real character.

This is beautiful, with loads of complexity and high-toned notes of wild flowers and loads of pure plum fruit. It maintains its much-loved and followed style with aplomb. It will age brilliantly, but is already delicious.

Fragrant with fresh berry fruit and a hint of subtle florality on the nose, the palate has layers of darker fruit. Blackberry and blueberry notes meld with complex notes of cedarwood, store cupboard spice and pipe smoke. The tannins are incredibly fine and very ripe, integrating beautifully with the rich core of fruit. The cooler climate of the vineyard is however expressed in a lovely vein of freshness that runs throughout, lifting the wine and carrying through to the finish.

Flint Vineyard's 2022 Bacchus has explosive aromatics of sherbet lemon, elderflower and rose petal. The hot and dry summer resulted in smaller yields, but one with incredible concentration. Picked from multiple parcels of Bacchus from their own vineyards and Martin’s Lane in Essex. Each plot was vinified separately in stainless steel at different temperatures and using different yeast strains, with no malolactic fermentation, to preserve the freshness and energy of the wine and keep the harmony of the blend. Wondrous and bright on the palate, with notes of zingy pineapple and a pleasing salinity lingering on the finish.

Made from Aghiorgitiko grapes grown at around 500 metres above sea level, in the Koutsi sub region of Nemea. The 4 -6h in the name refers to the time the wine spends on its skins to extract this delicate pink hue. The wine is super fresh and dry, but has an alluring aroma of fresh strawberries. It is more deeply flavoured and complex than a Provence rosé, and has a longer more mineral finish. Makes a wonderful apéritif, but would also be great with Mediterranean or Asian cuisine.

A groundbreaking wine from the Himalayas, grown at between 2100 and 2600 metres on the mountainsides flanking the Mekong River. Vibrant purple in the glass with dark, brooding aromas on the nose. Full of cassis, kirsch and fresh berry fruit. Velvet texture with vanilla and toasty aromas. The tannins are fine and abundant, with cool, fresh acidity and a mineral finish.

Fortuna Malbec comes from a part of the Adrianna Vineyard with a deep layer of sand before the vine roots hit limestone and large rocks. There's a silkiness here and fresh black fruits, damson and violets, with a chalky freshness throughout.

An exceptional Assyrtiko that comes from the estate’s oldest, ungrafted vines. It is a wine with huge complexity showing notes of verbena, sea spray, peach blossom and grapefruit pith. On the palate there is a vibrant and linear drive of acidity which adds focus to the wine but so much depth and texture that comes through to support. This will only gain in complexity.

The indigenous Assyrtiko grapes only see stainless steel during the winemaking process, which accentuates the saline profile of this wonderful grape. The wine offers up citrus peel, white blossom and pink grapefruit aromas as well as subtle ginger spice notes. The acidity is dazzling and contrasts beautifully with an attractive waxy quality on the palate.

Probably the most complex winemaking that our Buying Director, Steve Daniel, has ever encountered, with sixteen separate spontaneous fermentations in concrete tanks, amphorae, stainless steel and oak barrels. The wine reflects winemaker Nikos Karatzas’ obsessive attention to detail - he is one of the most technically gifted winemakers in Greece. He makes wine as naturally as possible, with no filtration or fining, and minimal sulphur addition at bottling. It is very natural in the approach, but the wine is crystal clear and precise. The wine has the flavour profiles of a very fine barrel-fermented Mâcon Villages, but with the added mountain herbs, drive and salty freshness that only Greece can deliver.

Idaia Winery craft crisp, dry, mouth-watering whites are truly expressive of the terroir of Crete, specialising in producing wines from indigenous varieties like Thrapsathiri. Ktima Biblia Chora is the innovative creation of Vassilis Tsaktsarlis and Vangelis Gerovassiliou, two of the most talented winemakers in Greece, crafting some of the best white wines in the region, with similarities to very good white Bordeaux. The Ovilos White is a blend of Assyrtiko 50% and Semillon 50%, with distinctive and characteristic aromas of apricot and honey from the Semillon. These blend perfectly with the citrus and lemon notes from the Assyrtiko, with nuances of vanilla and nutty hints adding complexity. This 100% Assyrtiko is precise and expressive with aromas reminiscent of lemon, tangerine, and exotic fruit zest, all underpinned by characteristic stony minerality. With lovely texture and a zingy freshness, the palate is beautifully balanced through to a lingering finish.

From a single plot of very old vines known as Thalassina, this parcel has given wines of real distinction and has been vinified separately. If there was such a thing, this could be considered a Grand Cru of Santorini. It is rich, powerful and austere yet deliciously smooth, with a backbone of refreshing acidity, enveloped by zesty citrus and ever-present smoky flintiness. This is a wine of great balance and finesse.

A wonderful example of Xinomavro with its complex bouquet of small berried red fruits, leather, pepper, clove and vanilla spice showing great typicity. Structured and beautifully balanced with rounded tannins and well-integrated oak, with a touch of quince on the finish.
