The forgotten Cabernet, Cabernet Franc was one of Cabernet Sauvignon’s parents along with Sauvignon Blanc. It most frequently appears as a blend with its offspring, playing a key role in some of the world’s most legendary wines: most famously it is more than half the blend of St Emilion’s Cheval Blanc. In the Loire valley, specifically around the towns of Bourgeuil, Chinon and Saumur, Cabernet Franc can alone produce long-lived wines to rival the world’s finest.
