2017 Montevetrano di Silvia Imparato Colli di Salerno IGT, Campania Magnum Dry | Red | Still | 13%

Montevetrano is a blend of Aglianico, with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It's an intense, powerful wine, but what marks it out is the freshness and textured layers here. A brilliant southern Italian red.

Ready: 2022 - 2034
2016 Côte-Rôtie Réserve du Domaine, Domaine Michel et Stéphane Ogier Magnum Dry | Red | Still | 13.5%

Blended from six lieux-dits, there's wonderful tension here between ripeness and mineral purity, with wonderfully perfumed and expressive Syrah fruit. The tannins are ripe and supple: this is a complete wine.

Ready: 2020 - 2035
2019 Roero Arneis, Bricco delle Ciliegie, Giovanni Almondo Magnum Dry | White | Still | 13%

The 2019 Bricco delle Ciliegie from Giovanni Almondo is an astonishingly good expression of the Arneis grape. Incredibly complex, notes of orange blossom, rosemary, and pine needles swirl from the glass. The palate is textured and savoury, with a core of fresh conference pears, and a thread of acidity that makes this so thirst-quenching.

Ready: 2021 - 2028
2017 Côte-Rôtie Mon Village, Domaine Michel et Stéphane Ogier Magnum Dry | Red | Still | 13.5%

Mon Village is the destination for the fruit of the Ogier’s younger vines, and it’s an approachable yet not-to-be-undervalued Côte-Rôtie. Very floral and supple, with persistence on the finish.

Ready: 2021 - 2034
2018 Roero Arneis, Bricco delle Ciliegie, Giovanni Almondo Magnum Dry | White | Still | 13%

With a few years of bottle age, this is hitting its stride. Pithy and mineral, with just a hint of honey and freshly cut herbs, the price of this is astonishing. Complex, long, and stunningly delicious.

Ready: 2019 - 2026
2017 Roero Arneis, Bricco delle Ciliegie, Giovanni Almondo Magnum Dry | White | Still | 14%

Undoubtedly the standout wine of the Roero zone, the 2017 Bricco delle Ciliegie doesn't disappoint. There's richness and roundness here, that comes from some clay in the soil, but also stunning tension and coolness to the fruit. The texture on the saline finish is wonderful - it has you reaching straight for another glass.

2019 Mâcon Chardonnay Clos de la Crochette, Héritiers du Comte Lafon Magnum Dry | White | Still | 13%

Chardonnay here refers to the village, rather than the variety. Clos de la Crochette is a charming walled vineyard that Dominique bought in 2003. After a little investigation he discovered it is one of the most historic sites in all of Burgundy, first planted by the monks of Cluny (c.900 AD). This has beautiful tension and energy, it comes as little surprise this spot has been a favourite for winegrowers through the centuries.

Ready: 2021 - 2028
2008 Viña Tondonia Rioja Reserva, López de Heredia Magnum Dry | Red | Still | 13%

2008 was a great vintage in Rioja, and it's hard to look past this brilliant wine from Lopez de Heredia. Loads of cedar complexity, with dark plums and leather on the nose. The palate is such a delight: this is complex, long, and incredibly delicious. It will age for eternity, but only if you can keep your hands off it: buy as much as you can.

Ready: 2020 - 2035
2019 The Chocolate Block, Boekenhoutskloof Magnum Dry | Red | Still | 14.5%

A blend of 71% Syrah, 11% Grenache, 9% Cinsault, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon, and just a dash of Viognier, the 2019 Chocolate Block is a wonderfully pure, elegant expression from the heart of the Swartland. Red berry fruit and wild flowers drift from the glass, while the palate shows crystalline purity and a beautifully mineral finish. It punches way above its weight: that they manage to produce this in such quantities is one of the wonders of the wine world.

Ready: 2021 - 2030
2014 Viña Arana Gran Reserva, La Rioja Alta, Rioja Magnum Dry | Red | Still | 14.5%

The Arana is the only Gran Reserva to be released by La Rioja Alta in 2014, so includes grapes that would otherwise have gone into the 890 or 904 - the best grapes on the estate. On the nose come notes of rose petal and plums, with a hint of redcurrant and notes of coconut. This is a wonderfully fresh and poised Rioja: there’s no heaviness here: rather it’s light on its feet without losing intensity. Long and finessed, it’s a brilliant Gran Reserva, at an outstanding price.

Ready: 2022 - 2038
2019 Muscadet de Sèvre et Maine sur lie, Grand Mouton, Louis Métaireau Magnum Dry | White | Still | 12%

This is the flagship wine of the estate, and offers the best of Muscadet: pale lemon yellow, a little citrus and blossom on the nose, an elegant, defined length, with some savoury structure from lees ageing bringing it all together. This is an absolutely charming Muscadet. In 2019 it has an effortless freshness, and poised balance.

Ready: 2021 - 2026
2020 Chenin Blanc, David & Nadia Sadie, Swartland Magnum White | Still | 13%

From seven different vineyards, planted on different soils, with planting dates ranging from 1968 to 1985. This is the best yet: suave and silky, with just enough palate weight and a lovely thread of acidity.

2019 Brazen, Blank Bottle Double Magnum Dry | White | Still | 13.5%

Brazen is a blend of Fernao Pires - from 37 year old vineyards in the Swartland - alongside amphora-aged Palomino from a 47 year old vineyard in Piekenierskloof, and Grenache Blanc from the Voor Paardeberg. It’s a savoury, textured, vibrant white, with a mineral finish that lasts for minutes.

2019 Little William, Blank Bottle Magnum Dry | Red | Still | 12.5%

Little William is a Syrah from the high-altitude Ceres plateau. It’s as pure and fragrant a Syrah as you’ll find in the Cape: think top-notch St-Joseph, or there’s even a little Cote Rotie about it.

2019 Cornerstone, Reyneke, Stellenbosch Magnum Dry | Red | Still | 13.5%

A wine with an amazing story, where the proceeds go to helping the workers on Johan Reyneke's farm, this Bordeaux blend is classically styled, with just enough South African energy. It's a total bargain: this with a barbecue (or a Braai!) will be heaven.

2020 Le Volte, Tenuta dell'Ornellaia, Tuscany Impériale Dry | Red | Still | 13%

The third wine from Ornellaia, this is grippy and juicy, with loads of fresh acidity, yet a plush, giving mid-palate. Such a brilliant food wine, it's ready to go straight away, but will be great after a few years in the cellar, too.

2018 La Rocca, Pieropan, Soave Classico Magnum White | Still | 13%

A contender for Italy's greatest white, the 2018 La Rocca has loads of bright peach fruit, notes of greengage, and lots of stem ginger on the finish. It's a real joy: a wine that blossoms in the glass. And these magnums are beautiful.

2018 Batàr, Querciabella, Tuscany Double Magnum Dry | White | Still | 13%

2017 Rosso di Montalcino Le Potazzine, Gorelli, Tuscany Magnum Dry | Red | Still | 15%

A very elegant nose on this, with plenty of tannin, marking it out as a particularly serious Rosso. This is comfortably the quality of many Brunellos, with excellent vibrancy, and silky fruit. Excellent. A stunning Italian red that's sure to impress.

2015 Rioja Viña Ardanza Reserva, La Rioja Alta Magnum Dry | Red | Still | 14.5%

The 2015 Ardanza is up there with the greatest examples of this wine that we’ve tasted: a wine to go alongside the 2010, 1973, or 1964. It’s perfumed and lifted, but with a real core of dark fruit, and stunning energy and saline notes on the finish. This is a real beauty: one that’s not to be missed.
