As a single Quinta this is the jewel in the crown of the Symington family estates. Its vineyards border the banks of the Douro and the historic 20 pipe (11,000 litres) lagares built in 1827 by Doña Antonia are still the sole way of working the grapes, with the help of a team of 50 treaders. Of a deep opaque colour, the wine has glorious aromas of summer fruits. The Vesuvio style balances finesse and elegance with opulence, giving a lovely vibrant feel with a fine structure and soft supple tannins. This is an outstanding example of why single vineyard vintage ports are so appealing in the same way as a single château wine is in Bordeaux .
