Amontillado Viejo, Hidalgo
This amontillado has an extraordinary nose that combines a whole plethora of flavours and aromas; hazelnuts, marmalade, Christmas cake, dried fruits, leather, spice and mahogany to name but a few. The palate has incredible intensity and weight but remains elegant and fine. However it is the finish that sets this apart as a wine of outstanding quality. Fully dry, it lasts for at least two and a half minutes before you even begin to realise you have swallowed (it did not even cross my mind to spit this out). This is worth every single penny.
