2009/2010 Brunello di Montalcino, Mastrojanni Mixed Case

2009 Brunello di Montalcino, Mastrojanni
A well developed, expressive nose of red fruit and herbal notes, the classic Sangiovese character shines through. The palate has lovely freshness and an enchanting savouriness, whilst maintaining, as is the house style, a certain luxuriousness. A fantastic advert for 2009 Brunello.

2010 Brunello di Montalcino, Mastrojanni
“What a tightly knit wine this is with so much fabulous character of dried meat, orange peel, berry and spice. Dried and dusty earth too. Full body, sweet fruit character and ripe tannins but loads of structure and intensity. Structurally intense and dry at the finish. It goes on for minutes. Best ever.” 98 points, James Suckling, jamessuckling.com

This estate was founded in 1975, on virgin land to the south of Montalcino, by Gabriele Mastrojanni, a Roman lawyer. The potential of the site quickly became apparent and, especially following Andrea Machetti’s appointment as winemaker in 1992, Mastrojanni has risen to become one of Montalcino’s finest producers. The Illy family (of coffee fame) took control of the estate ten years ago, and have invested to improve quality still further. This is a great estate on the rise.
