2018 Skuinskap Steen, Lourens Family Wines, Piekenierskloof

2018 Skuinskap Steen, Lourens Family Wines, Piekenierskloof

The Skuinskap Steen comes from a vineyard at 750m of altitude, planted in 1977. The nose is delicate, with bruised apples and fresh pears: there's such focus, you could almost be in the Loire Valley here. The palate has more weight, with yellow fruit and impressive precision, and a finish that lasts for minutes. This is one of the Cape's most impressive Chenins: sure to be on allocation in years to come. Just 1,700 bottles were filled.

Tasting notes

Skuinskap - don’t you just love the sound of the word? - comes from one of the highest sites in Piekenierskloof, situated at 750 metres on decomposed sandstone soils. Fresh, focused and racy, despite doing full malolactic, it has fennel and fynbos scents, plenty of concentration and refined oak. Superb Chenin.
