2016 Cartology Bush Vines, Chris Alheit, Western Cape

TASTING NOTES

On account of the heat wave, 2016 produced the smallest amount of Cartology (69 barrels) since 2013. Early picked for freshness, it’s a spicy, complex, naturally fermented blend of Chenin with 11% Semillon, showing stony minerality and notes of aniseed, beeswax and citrus peel.

Chris Alheit

South Africa's Chris Alheit is one of the wine world's most exciting, and sought after stars, a fact that's all the more impressive given that he only started his winery with his wife Suzaan in 2011. He buys fruit from old vines from across the Cape, making a mix of single site wines, as well as his calling card, Cartology, which comes from a blend of different vineyards. His are wines that show remarkable character, with texture, flavour, and complexity in spades. They scale ever greater heights every year: he's a producer you simply have to get to know.
