2015 Pinotage, Ashbourne, Hemel-en-Aarde
This wine is a real treat. Only 9 barrels were produced. It is so rare in fact, that the winemakers themselves are forbidden from drinking it. This has been largely publicised as the best Pinotage in the world and it really shows. Such opulence on the nose. Notes of smoke, tobacco, sandalwood, cardamom, nutmeg and spice. The palate shows rounded integrated tannins with masses of red and dark fruits. The acidity plays a wonderful supporting role in this wine and delivers a crisp, clean finish. This wine is drinking wonderfully now, however, Anthony states that it was designed to last for 40 years.
