2023 Momtazi Pinot Noir, Nicolas-Jay, McMinnville, Oregon
New release
Momtazi is in the McMinnville AVA, in the foothills of the Coast Range, and is notable for its small percentage of planted acres, giving the AVA a remote, secluded charm. A portion has been converted to biodynamically farmed Pinot Noir, and today this vineyard is one of the premier sites in Oregon. Nicolas-Jay’s block of Pinot Noir lies near the top of the vineyard, at an elevation of 740 feet.
Dense and brambly fruits of the forest on the nose, hints of spice and cinnamon. A serious wine, it coats the mouth with structured and complex flavours and a hint of cream and vanilla. Everything is subtle, though, and in perfect balance. A hint of game on the finish, which is long and succulent.
