2018 Fay Vineyard, Stag's Leap Wine Cellars, Napa Valley
The Fay vineyard was the first to be planted in what would later become the Stags Leap District AVA. The winery of the same name is most famous for winning the Cabernet trophy at the Judgement of Paris blind tasting, which rocked the wine world. The 2018 Fay has all the classic hallmarks of great Napa Cabernet. It's full of black cherry, ripe cassis, and aromatic blueberry fruit. There's a lovely silkiness to the texture on the palate and a red cherry lift with fresh acidity. There's some savoury spice building in the background that will only improve with time in bottle.
