2018 Promontory, Napa Valley
Another stellar showing from this unique spot in the mountains of Napa Valley, acquired by the Harlan family in 2008. The 2018 vintage gave the team a long, super cool ripening season, with a generally mild summer. They picked the fruit gradually, plot by plot, and the resulting wine is cool and fresh with bright acidity and crunchy black berry fruit, wild strawberry and red currant. There's a lot of acidity here, but compared to cooler years the fruit is forward, fleshy and concentrated. The texture is velvety and the tannins are layered and structured. Although this is very fruit-forward now, there are hints of the complex foresty, savoury, mineral notes Promontory is so famous for.
