2022 Maté's Vineyard Chardonnay, Kumeu River, Kumeu

Mate's Vineyard Chardonnay remains the pinnacle of production at this celebrated New Zealand estate. This vintage marks the 30th in this vineyard, and it has the typical hallmarks of roasted hazlenut, plump peach fruit, citrus zest and crème brûlée. There's a tightness now, not surprising given this is one of Kumeu's most ageworthy bottlings. A smoky note and savoury, mealy feel on the palate complete the wine, with zesty acidity remaining until last on the long finish.
