2013 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Xanadu, Margaret River

2013 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Xanadu, Margaret River

A highly complex, old-school nose greets you with smoky leather, dried herbs, violets, and earthy undergrowth surrounding a core of dried plums and cassis. The palate is incredibly elegant; the chewy, muscular tannins of its youth have melted into a velvety, supple caress. There’s a beautiful, refreshing red-berry lift to the finish—reminiscent of fine Tuscan reds—underpinned by graphite and cedar. This is a triumph of a museum release. The oak has been beautifully absorbed by the fruit, and the wine is firmly inside its peak drinking window—showing exquisite maturity while retaining the structural stamina to go on for another decade.
