2008 Batuta, Dirk Niepoort, Douro

Batuta is Niepoort’s flagship red wine. Fruit comes from 75 year old vines from the north-facing vineyard Quinta do Carril and also from older vines (about 100 years) near Quinta de Nápoles. Dirk describes this wine as one of extremes. Rich and intense yet not exuberant; concentrated yet fresh and elegant; tannic yet tannins which are fine and ripe. Tight, precise, focused, mineral, complex and persistent. This exceptional wine illustrates the high quality that the Douro is capable of producing.
