2018 Calvarino, Pieropan, Soave Classico

Calvarino takes its name, 'little Calvary', from the steepness of the slope and the difficulty this presents in working the vineyard. Rich, ripe, and perfumed, it has more upfront joy than the Rocca, but perhaps a little less longevity. It will still age a decade or more, if you'll let it.

2018 Calvarino, Pieropan, Soave Classico

Pieropan have been situated in the heart of the village of Soave since 1880, and now make the best white wines in the commune. They purchased La Rocca vineyard in 1978, a stunning south-west facing site in the shadow of Soave’s 10th century castle. It’s a site famed for the ripeness the grapes attain, and the expressive perfume of their wines. If there were a white Grand Cru of Italy, then La Rocca from Pieropan would lay serious claim to such a title.
