2015 Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Riserva, Villa Bucci, Marche

The 2015 Riserva from Villa Bucci is wonderfully aromatic, with notes of peach and orange skin, and also ripe mandarin. The palate is textured and characterful, with fine acidity and amazing pithiness. It’s a wine that’s hard to put down, developing in the glass and unfurling on the palate. Stunning.

2015 Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Riserva, Villa Bucci, Marche
Villa Bucci

On the eastern coast of Italy, near the port of Ancona, Villa Bucci is the standout producer of the Castelli di Jesi DOCG. The estate itself is some 400 hectares in total, with just 26 hectares planted with vines. The majority, 21 hectares, are Verdicchio, spread across six vineyards. Current incumbent Ampelio Bucci is helped by legendary consultant oenologist Giorgio Grai, who’s worked here for almost 30 years. The Riserva is only made in the best vintages, from the estate’s old vines that average between 40 and 50 years old. It’s then aged in 70 year old oak barrels for two years, a remarkable approach resulting in a remarkable wine
