Coming only from vines of 20 years old or more, this is amazingly lifted and cool for the vintage, with super-refined tannins and notes of spice, blackberries, and a hint of candied blood orange. Comes from three or four different parcels. So well balanced, and very long.

Boscarelli is a tiny estate, which gives the family total control over every part, and means they’ve been able to create wines of real individual character. Owner Luca works alongside celebrated winemaking consultant Maurizio Castelli, and his brother Nicolo is responsible for the vineyards. Nicolo, who lives on site, is hugely charismatic, and every time we meet him his facial hair has changed. What remains constant however is the quality of the wines from one of Montepulciano’s greatest names.
