2011 Chianti Classico Riserva Vigna del Sorbo, Fontodi, Tuscany

Effectively Fontodi’s Gran Selezione and the flagship wine of the estate, the Vigna del Sorbo has as much, if not more, ageing potential than the famous Flaccianello, whilst retaining more grace and elegance. Made with grapes from forty-five year-old vines, the Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend gives intense, brooding, dark fruit. This is a surprisingly fresh and brilliantly integrated wine.

2011 Chianti Classico Riserva Vigna del Sorbo, Fontodi, Tuscany

Fontodi has been run by Giovanni Manetti since 1980. His peerless attention to detail has made this estate one of Chianti’s crown jewels, and he now follows biodynamic principles to make sure he starts out with the very best fruit. These vineyards are situated right in the middle of the historic Chianti Classico zone. They occupy the Concha d’Oro, or the Golden Shell, an amphitheatre of vineyards known for its unique geologic shape that ensures the vines receive the ideal amount of sunshine.
