2011 Brunello di Montalcino, La Gerla, Tuscany

Aromatically open and inviting, with red currant and cherry, along with notes of leather, spice and clove. The palate is beautifully balanced, with concentration, underlying freshness and a good brush of ripe tannin. Once again, La Gerla have delivered a delicious Brunello with the capacity to evolve with time in the cellar.

La Gerla

Sergio Rossi fell in love with the vineyards of Montalcino, and bought his own estate in 1976. The land was bought off the Biondi-Santi family, the most historic name in Brunello production, and Sergio quickly set about turning his new estate into one of the best performing in the region. He sadly passed away in July 2011, so the 2011 vintage holds a special place at the estate. His work has been ably continued by his wife, Donatella, and his right hand men, Alberto Passeri and Vittorio Fiore.
