2010 Barolo Bricco delle Viole, G.D. Vajra

“At the moment, the 2010 Barolo Bricco delle Viole, is sitting in three casks that correspond to the different sections of the vineyard. The final blend has not been made,…still, the three casks were all impressive and point to a wine with a bright future.”
Antonio Galloni, Vinous, January 2014

Galloni has given this wine 95+ points since the 2005 vintage and on tasting the barrels there is a depth of flavours with notes of cherries, violets and roses. This wine has the potential to be beautifully balanced, and an outstanding example of Barolo this vintage.

2010 Barolo Bricco delle Viole, G.D. Vajra
G.D. Vajra

Surprisingly, given their access to great terroir, this estate was only founded in 1972 by Patriarch Aldo. Named after his father Giuseppe Domenico who planted most of the family’s vines, the property sits at one of the highest points in Piedmont, so the grapes ripen later than anywhere else in the region. When these slow-ripening grapes are pressed, it gives their wines a unique, fresh and elegant style. They’re Barolos for Burgundy lovers.
