2010 Coltassala, Castello di Volpaia, Tuscany

First produced in 1980, Coltassala is the flagship wine of Volpaia. A big step up in power whilst still retaining the estate’s refinement and balance; in a vintage like 2010 this has serious intensity and will age fantastically. Volpaia use more oak in this than on their other wines, but this suits the fruit, with the wine conforming to the estate’s ‘presence without weight’ mantra. This remains an elegant wine in spite of the wealth of flavour.
