2010 Ornellaia, Tenuta dell'Ornellaia, (25th Anniversary) Bolgheri, Tuscany

A blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, this is a serious and refined wine. Contrasting with the opulence and expressiveness of the pretty 2009, this is a masculine and mineral wine of impressive stature. Complex on the nose, with notes of black fruits, plums and a touch of tobacco. The palate is all about pure fruit, darkly layered, with very fine but structural tannins and a mouthwatering acidity that gives this an overwhelming sense of freshness. Very elegant, very “grown up”, this is certainly a wine that is keen to prove that it has come of age.
