2008 Barolo Ginestra Vigna Case Maté, Elio Grasso, Piedmont

A delectable scent, full of fresh, sun-warmed strawberries, blueberries and sour cherries and a delightful hint of violets. The quality of 40-year old vines shows in this elegant yet powerful wine. The fine tannins are in near perfect equilibrium with the acidity and flavour characteristics. The bright fruit alongside more savoury liquorice and tar elements lead to a lengthy finish with great finesse. (Antonio Galloni, The Wine Advocate, 98+ points).

Elio Grasso

The story of Elio Grasso begins not in the winery, but in the city of Turin, where Elio Grasso was working at a bank when his winemaking grandfather died. From that moment, he returned to his roots – since 1978 working in his eponymous winery on just 18 acres of hills surrounding Monforte d’Alba.
