2006 Barolo Monprivato, Giuseppe e Figlio Mascarello, Piedmont

"Mascarello’s 2006 Barolo Monprivato is incredibly primary at this stage. The 2006 is an explosive Monprivato endowed with layers of ripe red fruit backed up by firm, muscular tannins that speak with great eloquence...From time to time, the wine shows glimpses of its nobility. The 2006 is shaping up to be a profound Monprivato. The only thing it needs is time. This is a fabulous effort from Mascarello. 96 points. " Antonio Galloni, Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate

Giuseppe e Figlio Mascarello

The winemaking story of Mascarello started at the turn of the century when the original Giuseppe Mascarello first produced top Nebbiolo-based wines. The estate has passed from father to son ever since. Current winemaker Mauro Mascarello has lifted it to the top table of Piedmontese producers, with wines particularly prized for their clarity and precision. He uses the best grapes, from vines up to 300 years old, and takes his time to ensure nothing is rushed in the pursuit of perfection.
