Only 500 cases are produced from this 3 hectare parcel, which is surrounded by walnut trees (nocio). More new French oak, but more than enough wine to cope. On the nose this is very floral, with black cherries and an almost exotic spice. Intense, with notes of tar and smoky oak on the palate. There are many layers here and many more yet to be revealed. Magnificent.

Boscarelli is a tiny estate, which gives the family total control over every part, and means they’ve been able to create wines of real individual character. Owner Luca works alongside celebrated winemaking consultant Maurizio Castelli, and his brother Nicolo is responsible for the vineyards. Nicolo, who lives on site, is hugely charismatic, and every time we meet him his facial hair has changed. What remains constant however is the quality of the wines from one of Montepulciano’s greatest names.
