An outstanding producer on Tenerife, this is a wonderful wine for those who love delicate yet flavourful reds, with tons of texture and salinity: a brilliant food wine. Notes of wild peaches and rose petal, and also crunchy dark berries, this is incredibly stony and volcanic, with so much to offer. Bravo.
The 2017 Táganan Tinto is a village red from different vineyards, mostly from the Chavarria zone of Taganana on black basalt soils (but there is a small fraction from red soils). The plots fermented separately, but they blend the wines before putting them in barrels, as it matured in 228-liter oak barrels, just as it has in the last three years. This always has the telltale pumice stone, black pepper and dry rose petals of the Listán Negro grapes on volcanic soils with the freshness and saltiness from the proximity to the sea. It was very open and expressive, and they told me they have been working with carbonic gas so the wines do not feel reductive in bottle, and it also provides more precision in the wines. All in all, the best red Táganan so far. This vintage should age nicely in bottle. 6,200 bottles were filled in December 2018.
