The 2016 Mencia Carballo is a real delight. Lifted and perfumed on the nose, there are notes of blood orange and pomegranate, with iron oxide and fresh cherries providing backbone. The palate is juicy yet structured, with just a hint of Syrah-like pepperiness. This is brilliantly pure and fine, with impressive length on the finish. It punches such a long way above its weight.
