2015 Phinca La Revilla Tinto, Bodegas Bhilar, Rioja Alavesa
Impressive from the outset, this is a subtle and extremely complex single vineyard wine from David Sampedro. From a 0.8 hectare plot planted in 1925, the intensity of the old vines shows through. It offers hints of grilled meat, wild herbs, with an expressive perfume of, violets, blue fruits. Tense and full of coiled energy on the palate, this is a wine with a long life ahead of it. Dark cherry fruit, hints of charcoal, lavender, peony, liquorice and flicker into focus on the palate. Long and extremely fine.
