2010 Gratallops Vi di Vila, Alvaro Palacios, Priorat

One of the most exciting winemakers in Spain, Alvaro Palacios initially made a name for himself in the distinguished region of Priorat, where he continues to make some of the most sought after wines in the Old World. A staunch believer in biodynamism and the power of his terroir, the Palacios portfolio is seriously impressive, offering distinct and delicious character from the region’s indigenous variety, Mencía. Alvaro Palacios’ passion for the grape – and indeed, everything to do with the vinous heritage of Spain – is remarkable.

Attractive on the nose, with notes of dark berries and a hint of menthol, this is an aromatic and enticing wine. On the palate, it is more restrained, with a concentrated dark fruit profile, and finely honed tannins. With a dart of acidity on the finish, adding a sense of elegance and refinement to what is quite a big and bold wine.
